A seasoned sergeant once told me that “The things that make you a good cop don’t make you a good lover.” With PTSD and divorce rates estimated at 3 times the rate of the general public, law enforcement personnel need additional skills to care for themselves and their families. FSS trains officers and their families in Trained Resilience and coping skills designed to moderate the effects of daily stress and trauma that law enforcement face. FSS also provides trainings to other first responders and mental health professionals on stress management and coping skills for dealing with burnout, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue.
Dealing WIth Officer and Family Stressors

We will discuss factors related to trained resilience and coping skills designed to moderate the effects of daily stress and trauma that law enforcement face. (2 to 4 hours)
Resiliency Training for Law Enforcement
Resilience is developed from many factors. Many of the attributes of resilience can be taught. We will discuss communication skills, relationship development, coping skills, predicting traumatic events and preparing for them among other resilience based skills aimed at increasing the Law Enforcement Officers’ resilience. (2 to 3 hours)
Stress of Caregivers
We’ll look at the effects of burnout, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue in crisis workers and other helping professionals. Then we’ll demonstrate specific methods for dealing with these effects in our lives. Specific trained resiliencies and coping skills will be discussed. (2 to 4 hours)
