FSS Trainers come from all levels of the Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Systems and represent a broad knowledge base. Trainings specific to local needs and based on local cases can be developed to meet the needs of your agency.
Death Notification
Notifying someone of the death of a loved one is one of the most difficult and painful things we can do. We will demonstrate a method of providing death notifications professionally and compassionately. We’ll also discuss self-care after making a death notification. (2 to 3 hours)
The Sequential Intercept Model (with an introduction to process mapping)
The Sequential Intercept Model is a tool that many counties use to identify places in the behavioral health-criminal justice continuum where individuals with mental illness can be diverted from the criminal justice system. Process mapping is a way to track and analyze how a person transits those intercepts including what’s needed and how those needs are delivered. (2 to 4 hours)
Whole System Process Mapping of the Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Continuum
Process mapping is a way to track and analyze how a person transits the stages of the Sequential Intercept Model including Intercept Zero. In general terms the PM defines the mission of each agency and Identifies what’s needed for achieving that mission. It outlines the process used to achieve the mission and describes the steps used in the process. It explains the order of the steps, the activities of the steps and the personnel, information, and equipment needed to complete each step. Process mapping is designed in conjunction with a leadership and problem solving body to collaboratively design changes and improvements within the system.
Having the Gun Conversation with Suicide Risk Individuals and Families
Many clinicians have techniques for assisting patients and families regarding safely managing medications. Studies however, indicate that many clinicians are reluctant to discuss firearms. Many will not broach the subject with families or patients due to a false belief regarding prohibitions, a fear that it will alienate the patient or that they are just plain uncomfortable with the subject. This training will assist clinicians in discussing the need and methods for removing or securing firearms to clients and family members.
